Realm of the Mad Prophet

Entry 002: October 11, 2023

Hey everyone out there, I hope you're enjoying your season of scares as much as I am.

This is my favorite time of the year, and I'm happy to indulge in all the frightful festivities I can -- be it music or movies or video games, whatever fits the Halloween vibe is being consumed right now. I recently managed to finish my first complete playthrough of both Blood and Dusk, two great first-person shooters that are oozing with the right kind of style and atmosphere for this time of the year. This weekend I'm hoping to do my annual playthrough of the first Resident Evil, blitzing through the B-rate camp of the original game followed by the delightful ambience of the remake. Plus, this year has a Friday the 13th in the month of October, so what a better time than that to sit down and watch the movie Friday the 13th for the first time?

Of course it hasn't been all scares for me. Lately I've taken a liking to Digimon, specifically the keychain v-pets that spawned the whole franchise. I was interested in trying a Tamagotchi again after rereading the digital pet chapter of Yugioh (you should seriously check out the manga if you liked the show but don't have any exposure to the series beyond what we got in the West), but a buddy of mine actually talked me into trying Digimon instead. I've been hooked ever since - it's a shame I blew it off for years as the "dollar store Pokemon," because truthfully I think its evolution trees being more involved and complex makes for a pretty interesting gameplay experience.

I'd also like to start reading some novels again, even if I only manage a chapter a week. I've been thinking about rereading The Gunslinger by Stephen King - I haven't read it since high school, and I still have my old worn-out copy that looks like it came out of some sun-scorched desert itself. Maybe I'll start that this weekend as well.

That's it for now. Enjoy the Halloween season, everyone.
